Term 2 saw the design and implementation of a BRAND NEW pilot program, designed especially for teens who are blind or vision impaired.
Each week for five weeks, three teens (and sometimes their siblings) tried out a range of sports and activities. They enjoyed tennis, soccer, table tennis, bumpa ball and even tried a spin class! Some sports required team cohesion, some partnerships and others individual effort; which gave the participants the opportunity to try, and and even strengthen, their natural gifts and skills. Visiting different venues each week exposed them to new environments, encouraging their sense of adventure and helping to build confidence in new situations.
Each sport provided a pathway for future participation and we look forward to seeing these teens again soon.
BSRV wishes to thank all who attended (participants and their families), VicHealth for funding, Social Goal, Tennis Victoria, Waterpolo Victoria, Hawthorn Aquatic & Leisure Centre and Victorian Vision Impaired Table Tennis Association and Victorian Goalball Association for their support.
