A day of adventure and so much fun at Hampton Beach. We joined in!

Kala Petronijevic, BSRV participant, writes about a great day out.

On Saturday the 18th of January, we arrived at Hampton Beach to do various activities with Blind Sports and Recreation Victoria.

There were quite a few families there. It was the perfect day to go to the beach; almost 30 degrees, and no wind, so the ocean was calm. The sand was burning hot but the water was refreshing.

The first thing we did was a get-to-know-you session, where we all introduced ourselves, and we got to meet the volunteers that would be helping us that day. Then, we headed out to the sand to play a game of Beach Flags, a race to see who would take the flag out of the sand first. Once we had finished that, we headed into the water.

In the water, we spotted an inflatable with a slide attached to one end. We all had a few goes on the slide. It was slippery, so we went quickly. After that, the volunteers pulled out some paddleboards for us. At first, I was unstable on mine and kept almost falling off, but I soon got the hang of it and even had a couple of races with my friend! I lost both races but it was fun either way.

Once we had finished with the boards, we had a few more goes on the slide, and then it was time to get out of the water.

There were snacks waiting for us on dry land!

Overall, it was a great day, and I would definitely go again. If I had to choose a favourite activity that we did, it would probably be using the paddleboards. I had so much fun on them!
