The TechDiversity Awards showcase the achievements of organisations across all sectors in building diversity and inclusion through technology.
BSRV was delighted to be nominated for these awards by our Digital & Technology Advisor, Samir Mahir and thrilled to win in the Health and Well-being Category.
Designed to alleviate the social isolation that COVID lockdowns brought to people who are blind or vision impaired, BSRV's virtual programs have grown since their introduction in 2020 to include full body fitness, walking, yoga, energy balance, music quizzes, healthy cooking sessions and armchair travel.
An important part of the program has been the training and peer mentoring of people who are blind or vision impaired in using Zoom technology at home, to facilitate their participation. This has allowed people living in regional areas and interstate to join in, while adding to our range of sport and recreation programs.
BSRV President, Maurice Gleeson OAM said: "We would like to thank the Department of Social Services who are supporting these valuable programs and I would also wish to thank our committed and talented staff and volunteers who design, develop and implement these sessions on a daily basis. It is a demonstration of how innovation and adaptability during a crisis can lead to ongoing sustainable benefits."
