Blind Sports & Recreation Victoria invites you to become a volunteer and help us empower people with vision loss to lead active and healthy lifestyles. About Blind Sports & Recreation Victoria (BSRV)
BSRV enhances the lives of people throughout Victoria who are blind or vision impaired through sport and recreation. Since our establishment in 1977, we have evolved into a small but thriving charity, setting the benchmark for blind sport and recreation in Australia. Supporting more than 1,200 members, we encourage people with no or low vision of all ages and backgrounds to lead more healthy and active lifestyles.

 

Position Description

Blind Sports & Recreation Victoria is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to assist Program Managers on group outings for people with vision loss. Volunteers will:

  • Guide participants during walks and public transport trips.
  • Engage socially, ensuring everyone feels included.
  • Assist with reading menus and ordering food.
  • Take photos to capture moments from the outings.
  • Collect anecdotal feedback at the end of outings.

Group outings will include:

  • Sports-based activities like bushwalking, historical tours & group fitness sessions.
  • Recreational activities like visiting art galleries or going to cafes.

Location

Meeting point: Traveller's Aid, Flinders Street Train Station
Activities take place across Greater Melbourne.

Skills Required

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to guide and support individuals with vision loss.
  • Reasonable fitness and mobility to walk and assist on outings.
  • Friendly, patient, and inclusive attitude.

Time Required

  • One half or full day, twice a month
  • Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays during school hours

Commitment Required

  • Regular volunteering for 6+ months

Other Requirements

  • National Police Certificate (provided by BSRV)
  • Working with Children Check (free)

Training Provided

  • Vision Loss Awareness Training
  • Sighted Guide Training
